How To Create Designs On Silk Without Using Outliners
Painting on silk is wonderful!
Hi, I'm Teena Hughes - I've been painting on silk for around 40 years, and teaching others in many countries to do the same :-) Painting on silk makes my heart sing and brings me much joy, and I hope you enjoy this Course as much as I did making it.
This Course is for people who have started painting on silk, and are now looking for other techniques to try out. You're right in thinking that there are many techniques - and many types of silk fabric too, from sheer Silk Chiffon to thick Silk Satin and Dupion, and Habotai Silk for beginners (thin silk and the steam-set dyes which flow, and merge, creating magic!).
The traditional designs on silk were created with an outline product - a gum-based outliner called Gutta (pronounced Goo-tah). Many new silk artists start out using fine silk like Habotai and use fine nibs to create drawings of every description by using Gutta and other water-based outliners.
Some silk artists also like to create designs without Gutta or outliners - and I'm one of them :-)
I love the amazing results I can achieve with just two colours of steam-set Silk Dye, which become a third colour wherever they blend together. And yes, you can use as many colours as you like :-)

When I lived in the tropics at the top of Australia, I was greatly inspired by the flora, fauna and the Great Barrier Reef. This 3-fold room divider below has 3 silk inserts which I painted to remind me of the spectacular colours under the water on the Reef. Random splashes and flashes of lime green and turquoise blue, a dash of purple and I feel like I'm snorkelling amongst the colourful tropical fish :-)

Do I have to be skilled at painting on silk to take this Course?
To be honest, you don't need to be a "skilled" silk artist, but you do need to have tried painting on silk before taking this Course. The reason for this is because this is not a Course teaching beginners how to get started -- this is a Course showing a series of silk painting techniques, and if you have already tried silk painting, this will work for you :-)
How long does it take to complete the Course?
The online Course can be completed in one day, and will depend on the time you need to watch and absorb the lessons. You might take several days or even weeks to complete this Course -- you get to choose :-) Plus you can REPLAY any video as many times as you like, until you're happy with the technique.

What happens if I have questions?
Inside the Course you will find a Course Q&A Form where you can post questions. They should be answered by me within 24-48 hours.
How long will I have access?
There is no time limit on the training at this point, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Is it OK for me to share the Course and the Login with someone else?
The Course is meant for one person to access, and by signing up for the Course you agree to our condition that you will not share access with anyone else.
We also advise that this Course is not to be shown to a group of people for them to learn the techniques, this is against our policies.
How to access the Course?
